Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
Exchange Server is one of the most popular messaging system used in organizations. The latest version, Exchange Server 2010 brought many new features and functions to its predecessors.
Exchange Management Console(EMC)
The EMC is the main administrative console for configuring and managing Exchange Server 2010. It allows you to setup and configure most important settings of the Exchange.
Client Access Server Role(CAS)
In Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, the Client Access server role supports the Outlook Web App and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync client applications, and the Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol version 4rev1 (IMAP4) protocols. The Client Access server role also provides access to free/busy data by using the Availability service and enables certain clients to download automatic configuration settings from the Autodiscover service.
Database Availability Groups(DAG)
A DAG is the base component of the high availability and site resilience framework built into Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. A DAG is a group of up to 16 Mailbox servers that hosts a set of databases and provides automatic database-level recovery from failures that affect individual servers or databases.
Personal Archive
Personal archives help you regain control of your organization’s messaging data by eliminating the need for personal store (.pst) files and allowing users to store messages in an archive mailbox accessible in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and Microsoft Office Outlook Web App.
In Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, personal archives provide users with an alternate storage location in which to store historical messaging data. A personal archive is an additional mailbox (called an archive mailbox) enabled for a mailbox user. Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, and Outlook Web App users have seamless access to their archive mailbox. Using either of these client applications, users can view an archive mailbox and move or copy messages between their primary mailbox and the archive. Personal archives present a consistent view of messaging data to users and eliminate the user overhead required to manage .pst files. Eliminating the use of .pst files significantly reduces your organization’s exposure to the risks outlined in the previous section.
Exchange Server 2010 Editions
Two Exchange Server 2010 editions are available: Standard and Enterprise. The major difference between the Standard and the Enterprise edition is the number of mounted mailbox database. DAGs can be created in an Exchange Server 2010 standard edition.
